In 2011, walbridge.completed work on Phase I of a major renovation at the University of Michigan Law School.
Hutchins Hall, built in 1933, was renovated and revived with a new 16,000-square-foot, skylight enclosed common space, a new skybridge between Hutchins and the Law Library, and lower-level building and exterior upgrades.
At the same time, walbridge.completed work on the brand-new, four-story South Hall across the street. Faculty and administrative staff members moved to South Hall, leaving space available for upgrading at Hutchins Hall and the Cook Legal Research Library.
Phase II of the project started in September 2012 and was completed in May 2013. Work was performed in a building fully occupied by students and faculty.
In some cases, walls were patched and painted, and new carpeting was installed. In spaces requiring “mid-level” upgrades, fresh paint and new carpeting were applied, and minor alterations were made, including installing new ceilings, changing doors and/or door hardware, and adding electrical outlets. In a few cases, entire rooms were gutted, spaces reconfigured and new HVAC, electrical and AV upgrades were made, and all new finishes were applied.
