To improve parking availability, San Antonio International Airport hired Walbridge to construct a new $46 million, 2,800 space long-term parking garage. The new parking structure provides five levels of parking and was completed four months ahead of schedule and more than $5 million under budget. The structural system is precast concrete to match an adjacent existing garage.
Access to the new garage is through an existing garage at all levels using existing vehicle ramps, allowing three vehicle paths.
There was a significant amount of underground utility work in the project scope, which involved work of electrical, gas, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, communications and hydronic piping services. Because numerous utilities were optimally documented for the site, utility location and exploration was extensive in order to prevent accidents and disruption of services to the airport.
