Walbridge served as construction manager for the Nissan Technical Center, a 325,000-square-foot center to produce innovative design concepts. The facility houses office and engineering space, with half of its total square footage comprised in a three-story office building dedicated to engineering, along with administration and computer support.
The remainder of the facility is a high-bay, single story structure used for styling, prototype assembly and testing. Mechanical and electrical systems for the complex reside in the high-bay portion and consist of boilers, switchgear, chillers and an ice thermal storage system.
The R&D office facility is made of structural steel consisting of 36-foot by 36-foot bays with a sky lighted atrium and lobby. The prototype/testing/styling building is also made of structural steel and has 50-foot by 50-foot bays with prefabricated paneled skin.
