Walbridge provided construction management agency services for a new advanced specialty metals hot-rolling mill. The new facility is designed to produce flat-rolled titanium and titanium alloys, nickel-based alloys and specialty alloys, grain-oriented electrical steel, zirconium alloys, and stainless alloys for sheet, strip, Precision Rolled Strip® products and continuous-mill plate product forms.
The manufacturing facility provides unique alloy versatility, increase product capability, power, and improve product processing and handling. The new facility is fully automated, which provides a safe working environment with increased productivity. It is also environmentally friendly by utilizing the best technology available.
Additionally, Walbridge performed the installation of two (2) new 250 TPH walking beam reheat furnaces. The scope of work included charging and discharging machines, charging and discharging roll tables, waste gas ducts and recuperators, associated piping, refractory, insulation and electrical work.
Work began in late 2012, with a completion time of 14 months. Walbridge was diligent in maintaining milestone schedules which included the erection plan and sequence, equipment staging and temporary construction openings. The schedules were successful in keeping the project’s progression and avoiding interference with on-going operations at the mill.
