FLINT, Mich. – Walbridge Concrete Services work in Flint, Michigan was given a statewide honor for utilization of different mix designs as well as extensive use of freeze-resistant concrete while maintaining superior quality.
The Michigan Concrete Association named the General Motors Flint Paint Shop as a winner of a Michigan Award of Excellence in the Commercial Flatwork category. The award was presented during the Michigan Concrete Association 2016 Conference and Workshop on Thursday, Feb. 25.
Through comprehensive use of freeze-resistant concrete, Walbridge Concrete Services continued to meet a tight schedule despite a record-breaking amount of snowfall for the winter of 2014-15 in Flint.
Modern Concrete supplied the majority of the concrete on the building and Walbridge Concrete Services utilized more than a dozen different mix designs to address various project applications including for flooring, decks, walls, pits and caissons.
More than 1.3 million square feet of concrete was poured using specifications that include the freeze-resistant concrete and lightweight concrete and the use of additives such as steel fibers, liquid hardeners, shake hardeners and TUF Strand.
The Michigan Concrete Association awards received more than 70 project submittals this year.
Walbridge was contracted by Gallagher-Kaiser Corporation to design-build the new paint shop, which will be a part of the Flint Assembly complex. The paint shop will be the automaker’s third new paint facility in North America using the environmentally friendly “wet-coat” paint process.
GM produces Heavy-Duty Chevrolet and GMC Sierra Crew and Regular Cab Trucks, and is capable of producing Light-Duty Chevrolet Silverado Crew and Regular Cab Trucks.
