Portage Schools Select Walbridge as Representative for 2016 Bond Program

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Portage Public Schools has selected Walbridge and its West Michigan office to serve as Owner’s Representative on a $144 million bond program.

Walbridge’s role is to assist the district in the design and construction of two new middle schools, two new competition pools and new outdoor athletic facilities for each high school along with other site improvements. The work will also include the renovation of a third middle school and the community education center.

The design and construction management teams of C2AE/Stantec of Lansing and Berkley, and Owen Ames Kimball (OAK) of Grand Rapids are developing designs and bid packages. Bid documents are expected to be ready by December, with groundbreaking for Phase One in April 2017.

The planned improvements include:
• New Central Middle School and North Middle School,
• New Central and Northern High School athletic stadiums
• New Central and Northern High School Natatoriums,
• Renovations of West Middle School and the Community Education facility which houses Curious Kids Early Childhood programs and Community High School facilities
• Various site improvements to enhance use of Central and Northern campuses.
