Oakland University Engineering Center Wins Regional Technology Award

DAYTON, Ohio – The Oakland University Engineering and Computer Science Center, designed by SmithGroupJJR and constructed by Walbridge, has been recognized by ASHRAE Region V for outstanding design innovations and has received the organization’s Technology Award.

The 127,000-foot facility received First Place honors in the category of Commercial Buildings – Educational Facilities – New. It opened in September 2014 and features state-of-the-art classrooms and research space.

Judging criteria included energy efficiency, indoor air quality and thermal comfort, innovation, operation and maintenance, cost effectiveness, environmental impact, and quality of presentation.

Award certificates will be formally presented at the Region V Chapter’s Conference luncheon and awards meeting on July 30 in Dayton.

First-place Regional winners are qualified to compete at the national “Society” level, the highest level of competition for the technology awards.

The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is an international society that offers educational information, courses, seminars, career guidance and publications.
