The state’s $93 million Center for Forensic Psychiatry sits on a 100-acre site in southeastern Michigan. The 210-bed, “Level 5” security hospital provides the criminal justice system with diagnostic services and treats criminal defendants who are deemed incompetent to stand trial or acquitted by reason of insanity. The building design consists of four two-story wings and seven units of roughly 30 beds. Two wings consist of in-patient units, one wing contains the facility’s main support equipment; and the fourth wing houses the evaluation unit, forensic services, and business and conference functions. The project involved installing high-end security features and electronic data communications systems. Walbridge effectively managed more than 450 owner-initiated scope changes during the near five-year construction of the facility.
