Walbridge served as construction manager on the 260-acre greenfield site development at the Chrysler Group Marysville Axle Plant and design-built the physical plant and support buildings.
The Axle Plant, which achieved LEED® Gold certification in 2013, includes an Axle Manufacturing Plant, Employee Center, Energy Center, fire water pump house, storage tank, parking lot, guardhouse and truck scale. Construction of the manufacturing and employee buildings totaled approximately 645,000 square feet, including manufacturing space, offices, meeting rooms, a data center, locker rooms and a cafeteria.
The 23,700-square-foot Energy Center houses air compressors and dryers, oil storage tanks, substations and an emergency generator. The use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in construction helped eliminate both mechanical and electrical field interferences.
