Project Summary

Walbridge served as design-builder on the Base Exchange (EX) shopping center at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, which serves more than 50,000 active, reserve and retired military personnel and their dependents. The scope of work included demolishing an existing BX on the property once the new exchange was opened and phasing was complete. The new BX was one of the first AAFES facilities to pursue LEED® Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. If features a loading dock, food service area, three drive entrances, bicycle storage, two new parking lots to accommodate more than 400 vehicles, various energy-efficient systems and anti-terrorism protection features.
