Walbridge was responsible for the construction of a new paint shop under a tri-venture with Dürr and ACCO for General Motors. The venture combined construction, process and conveyance experience for a streamlined, integrated turnkey program. Work was completed on the brownfield plant site and all work was coordinated without interruption to the existing plant operations.

The project brought color-specific powder prime capability to the Lordstown Paint Shop – the first system of its kind for the General Motors Paint and Polymers Group. Because Dürr and Walbridge used a pre-fabricated modular build concept, paint shop equipment installation was faster and required fewer on-site modifications.

The Lordstown project team traveled to other paint shops during various stages of development to identify challenges and innovative solutions. As a result of innovative solutions like that, VA/VE initiatives and lean construction techniques, the Lordstown Program was completed ahead of schedule.
