Walbridge provided design-build services to the U.S. Department of the Navy for the new H-60 Helicopter Hangar at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida. Sustainable design features include the use of recycled steel, a rain water collection system and a design that maximizes day light.
The project included over 200,000 square feet of new hangar space, shop and administrative areas. The five hangar modules will house approximately 57 MH-60R Romeo helicopters, the newest aircraft in the Navy’s fleet and house more than 1,400 personnel. To make way for the new hangar, two World War II era hangars were demolished. The site was adjacent to active aircraft taxiways allowing for continuous operations of the helicopter squadrons and maintenance repair facilities during construction. Walbridge self-performed rigging and concrete operations.
