Lean Construction

Walbridge is a lean construction leader and innovator.  What makes our approach unique?  We’ve worked steadily to build a lean culture by encouraging lean thinking company-wide and applying lean concepts in an ongoing, relentless pursuit of improvement.  More than a list of tools, our lean program is about understanding methods, applications and benefits to provide the right tools for the right job; applying lessons learned, and reviewing our processes to increase productivity and reduce waste.

The application of lean concepts across the entire organization is what distinguishes the Walbridge program.  Lean principles to improve safety, quality, cost, communication and schedule are consistently applied – from design-build projects, self-perform concrete jobs to administrative procedures.  We train our partners, subcontractors and tradesmen to help them be as productive as possible.  Walbridge has saved nearly $9 million in operational costs during the past four years alone.

Lean isn’t just good for our bottom line – it saves you time and money.  When hiring a Walbridge team, you acquire more than the experience of the team itself; you benefit from all of Walbridge’s experience and knowledge catalogued in our Lessons-Learned Database.  All lean savings ideas, lessons-learned and value analysis/value engineering suggestions are entered into this online, easily accessible database.  The Lessons-Learned Database assures that tough lessons are not repeated and positive learning experiences are applied to every job.

To measure and improve our methods and successes, we assembled a diverse steering team, the Enterprise Process Improvement Committee (E.P.I.C.), which ensures that Walbridge maintains its ISO 9001:2008 registration through continual review of our quality management system.  E.P.I.C. also sustains our lean culture, by reviewing lean tools, savings ideas and best practices.
