Building Information Modeling

To provide our customers optimum value, Walbridge implements Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies.   BIM improves quality; reduces work, rework and overall schedule; aids just in time delivery and increases safety.

Our BIM efforts focus on Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), with additional benefits throughout a facility’s lifecycle.  Prior to construction, our project team views a three-dimensional model of the facility.  The model integrates design and construction elements, detecting clashes to eliminate in-field interferences. Our VDC process success relies on the right team member providing the correct information, eliminating unnecessary remodeling. Construction is a short period in a facility’s lifecycle, but BIM also provides long-term benefits.  Models are loaded with equipment data and maintenance schedules providing opportunities for intelligent, preventative maintenance throughout the building’s life.  Solving issues in the virtual world, before they become challenges in the field, saves you time and money.

BIM is about working smarter to design and construct the buildings we work in.  We’ve seen demand for BIM services from healthcare, manufacturing and government customers.  As more industries seek this value-add technology, BIM will continue to evolve.  Tools provide 3D (visualization), 4D (scheduling), 5D (quantity take-off and cost data) and XD (field tracking, equipment data) modeling.   The next BIM innovation will improve field technology tools.  Our projections for the future of BIM include a time (20 years) when Walbridge projects are built to a full-scale holographic projection- not to a set of paper drawings or from a computer monitor.
