WICHITA, KS – The completed Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport in Wichita, KS is a 2015 Award of Excellence winner after the Kansas Associated General Contractors of America announced its favorite projects on Jan. 29.

During the AGC of Kansas’ Winter Meeting, the $101.5 million project – which included a two-story, 273,000-square-foot terminal – was given the Judges’ Award. The award is based on significant construction features, innovative construction techniques, safety and outstanding examples of workmanship.

The project was previously named the winner of the AGC of Kansas’ Award of Excellence for projects more than $10 million.

The City of Wichita selected Key Construction/Walbridge Joint Venture to build the new terminal and construction began in October 2012.

Work included 12 gates and boarding bridges as well as ticketing, a baggage handling system, Transportation security Administration (TSA) screening areas, a business center, concessions, restrooms and administrative offices. Work concluded in April 2015.

The modern improvements for operations and security enhancements for the airport improve service for passengers. Its last major renovation was in 1989.
