MARQUETTE, Mich. – Walbridge has been selected by EdR to manage construction of six new residence hall buildings on the campus of Northern Michigan University.

A leader in the collegiate housing industry since 1964, EdR is one of the largest developers, owners and managers of high-quality collegiate housing communities.

In a public-private partnership with EdR, Northern Michigan University will have more than 1,200 new beds in more than 350,000 square feet in the multi-phase replacement and construction of six residence halls.

Neumann/Smith is the project architect. Construction is expected to begin immediately and all buildings are scheduled for completion in time for the fall semester of 2018, with some buildings coming on line in the summer of 2017.

Walbridge brings considerable expertise to the project, having constructed or renovated residential facilities with a total of 6,000 beds in the past 10 years. The Detroit-based construction company recently completed construction of Munger Graduate Residences at the University of Michigan’s Ann Arbor campus, which included the off-site construction and installation of 730 modular bathroom units. The Kalamazoo office of Walbridge, which will oversee this project, is currently managing construction of 1855 Place, a 10-building complex of housing, office space, retail space and a parking garage at Michigan State University in East Lansing. The residential component is replacing student housing built in the 1950s.

Walbridge was founded in Detroit in 1916 and is celebrating its 100th year of constructing for the automotive, higher education, manufacturing, airport, and office markets.
